Catapult – Audio Over Cat-5

The Catapult Family

The Catapult range takes advantage of a little-known audio trick – but one which opens up endless applications – the ability to send four channels of analog audio over a single Cat 5/6 cable. This feature gives you the chance to streamline and economize your setups by a factor of four, by eliminating the need for bulky multi-channel audio snakes, and allows you to take advantage of pre-wired networks to connect from one room to another.

Catapult modules require no power to operate, and since they keep the signal in the analog realm, no digital conversion is necessary. Straight-wire connection from the XLRs to the RJ45 connector on a Cat 5 cable ensures that your audio passes through without coloration or distortion. What you put in is exactly what you get out.

Which Catapult unit is right for me?

All Radial Catapult modules are compatible with each other and sold individually, so you can customize your transmit and receive devices to suit any application. Your choice will depend on the combination that best suits your needs:

  • The standard Catapult offers 4 channels of audio, with versions available with transformer-isolated or mic-level thru outputs for monitoring at different signal levels.
  • Catapult Mini units are compact and lightweight 4 channel modules, with a selection of connectors. They work well as end-points when you’re sending audio to a variety of different locations (for example to different areas on stage).
  • The Catapult Rack can be incorporated into your existing rack setup, with each unit essentially functioning as three 4-channel modules in a 1RU rackspace.
